Kathryn Kampovsky
Kathryn Kampovsky (b. 1997) is an artist based in Atlanta, GA. Her practice and works center around a deeply layered application of paint. Some strokes are sweeping, gentle and broad, others are frantic and clustered, but each one a reaction to the layers beneath. With expressive elements of figuration and gestural painting, her works depict figures dissolving into their abstracted environments, appearing to both inform and be informed by the brushstrokes they are made up of. Through her medium of acrylic paint, known for its quick dry time, she paints emotional portraits of a figure grappling with the passage of time themselves, their very bodies appearing to mesh and move with the paintings altogether. They are seen in domestic scenes or studio scenes, exploring the feelings of a life dedicated to finding meaning in paints.
